Find a San Diego County Lawyer

with 3 comments

Finding a quality San Diego county lawyer is of the highest importance. It could be the difference between winning and losing the case that will make or break you. Imagine increasing your settlement by 25%, serving the minimum rather than the maximum, having your paternal or maternal rights recognized, getting a fair child custody agreement, having your expensive medical bills paid, finally being granted U.S. citizenship, or walking away from your first big mistake without screwing up the rest of your life. The impact of anyone of these things could be huge. One mistake shouldn’t ruin your life and getting the right San Diego lawyer can save you from that.

When looking for a high quality lawyer to meet your legal needs take into consideration the following qualities:

Experience – Having a lawyer that has a high degree of experience in the field that you find yourself looking for legal assistance is very, very important. This is almost a no brainer, but with the complexity of legal issues in our society it needs to be stated over and over again and reinforced repeatedly. Would you higher a fisherman to repair your car? Or how about an accountant to be your personal trainer? Is the same way you probably shouldn’t hire a personal injury lawyer for your criminal case nor should you hire a immigration attorney for your estate planning. You need a criminal lawyer and a estate planning lawyer respectively.

There can also a marked different between levels of experience in certain fields. You obviously want the lawyer with more experience if you can afford it. Their knowledge of the judges, experience with juries, background with prosecutors, and interactions with clients will help you get the legal support you need for these professionals. After all, they are just normal people like you and we all know that experience helps you make better decisions.

References – While experience is a great indicator of a lawyers worth it is insufficient in and of itself, that is why quality references are need. We all know an individual in our line of work that has lots and lots of experience at their job but they still stink at it. It can be the same way with a lawyer. So what you want to look for in a lawyer is one that is also highly recommended in your area.

San Diego county is pretty large, so finding the right lawyer or attorney should not be that hard.  But because there will be so many to choose from you will definitely want to find one that has quality references.

For this you want to stay away from the hype that commercials will try and sell you. Just because a lawyer puts his face on TV doesn’t mean that they are respectable, careful, caring, or wise. It simply means that they are rich.

The best way to cut through the hype is to ask around about a specific San Diego county lawyer. Ask your prospective attorney if you could get into contact some of their previous clients to ask them about their services. They won’t be able to give you a list of their clients names because of attorney-client privilege, but they should be able to contact a few of their clients to ask them to contact you. Be sure to check out your local Better Business Bureau to see if your lawyer has any complaints against them. If all that fails, you could see if they have a listing at Lawyer Ratingz, a site set up to let normal people rate their lawyers. This should help you get a lock on who the specific San Diego lawyer you are considering is as an attorney.

Picking a lawyer that fulfills these basic requirement will take some work on your part, but the effort is definitely worth it.  Chances are you will have to pay more for an attorney with these qualifications, but you can rest assured that this will be money well spent.  However, no attorney can guarantee you specific results since our law system is so fluid and diverse – but a good San Diego County lawyer certainly helps your chances!

  1. It really is a hard process to find a good lawyer that fits your needs. You outline a few specific criteria to look for and it really helps with the process. Thanks for the advice!

  2. basically a san diego county government worker Falsely claimed on a federal government paper she sent to me for benefits that they “reviewed my case” that since i started a new job, that we our family were not entitled to any increase in benefits. Basically lying since she ‘could not reviewed anything or did her job since I was not working for anybody.

when I sent her a letter and complained to her supervisor the day we got the letter, 2 weeks later we got a notice that our benefts are being cut off, supposedly for now unreported unemployment benefits, which I showed her that I was not since I was disqualified for 2 years for not reporting that I was working to them for three weeks, which was due to not getting a paycheck, but also then it was due to the crossover period when i signed up for ui and then got a job, but was not long enough to get any benefits anyhow, and I lost a 2 appeals, which then she comes up with that I got a full year of benefits 6550.00, yet then edd had sent me another appeal denial letter for NO benefits, basically contridicting themselves.

Then when I went to the appeal hearing yesterday with social security lawyer, the county welfare person said they could not hear me since I did not advise them I was bringing a lawyer, since they say they required it, but as I see which I do not really have to, and then they denied me a hearing which I came prepared and they did not. I was told by the lawyer I SHOULD SEEK A CIVIL RIGHTS LAWYER since the county denied me the hearing, and now they want to schedule another informal hearing to bring their lawyer. They said they were going to send me a reason why since they can do as they please she said. The county worker under Federal law title 18 section 1001 clearly LIED and did not do her job, and our complaint to the supervisor of hers resulted in harmful conduct to us by cancelling our benefits.

any case or who can I go to since the county employee lied, and I feel it is retailiation

  3. Hi Paul,

First off, I am sorry to hear about these issues you seem to be having – it cannot be easy for you and your family.

Secondly, I want to make sure that you recognize that I am not a lawyer, so you should not construe what I am saying as legal advice. This is not legal advice and is simply advice that I would give to one of my personal friends if they were to tell me what you have just told me. Again, this is not legal advice.

It seems to me that if the lawyer who you took with you to the Social Security office thinks that you should contact a civil rights lawyer then you probably should. Lawyers, even if they are not experts in a certain area of practice, are still trained in the law (they did go to law school after all) and as a result they do know things about general legal principles that apply across many different legal matters. If he seemed to think that you should contact a civil rights lawyer then I would assume that he thinks you might have a pretty good chance of actually having a case given your circumstances.

I would try and find a reputable, wise, and experienced lawyer – and the only way that you are going to be able to do that is to do some research, make some phone calls, and get educated about your situation. This seems like something you are already doing.

    Thanks for stopping by.
